U.S. senators help promote Best Buy teen program

Best Buy Co. Inc. on Tuesday unveiled a series of new promotions for its teen-focused @15 program starring various U.S. senators, including Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar.

The public service announcements — or “teen service announcements,” as Best Buy is calling them — are short, unscripted videos that share “messages of hope and inspiration for America’s youth,” Best Buy said in a statement.

Over the next several months, the @15 Web site, along with the organization’s social networking pages and YouTube channel, will feature messages from teens engaged in Best Buy programs, celebrities, musicians and members of Congress.

Richfield-based Best Buy (NYSE: BBY) underwrites the @15 program in partnership with nonprofit organization Youth Venture.

The program launched in early 2008 , as part of the Best Buy’s plan to refocus its philanthropic efforts on youth 13 to 15 years old, a group that represents both a key customer demographic and a pool of likely employees.
